Fandom News: Unpopular Opinion Book Tag

Read all about it! Wait, what are we reading about? Seriously, nobody ever answers my questions.

Anyway, I am here today to bring you the Unpopular Opinion Book Tag, in which I talk about stuff and things and some people may even read it!

1. A Popular Book or Series That You Did Not Like

I did not like the Uglies series by Scott Westerfeld. I remember forcing myself to think that I liked them when I was reading them but now I have allowed myself to talk about my true opinions. I did not like that series. At. All. It was barely interesting, and there was only one well-rounded character.

2. A Popular Book or Series That Everyone Seems To Hate But You Love

For this I am going to pick Mockingjay by Suzanne Collins. Everyone tells me that it is their least favourite book out of the series, but it is actually my favourite. I tend to like conclusions that are not entirely happy, or even remotely happy. And I feel like Mockingjay can boast that.

3. A Love Triangle Where The Main Character Did Not End Up With The Person You Wanted Them To

Honestly, the ending to Clockwork Princess by Cassandra Clare makes me so angry! If I just didn’t read that darn epilogue I would have been so much better off! Tessa, the main character in The Infernal Devices series did not end up with the character that I wanted her to and it pains me beyond belief.

4. A Popular Book Genre You Hardly Ever Reach For

In all honesty I am just going to say Fantasy. I have read Fantasy books in the past, and I have really enjoyed them! I just find that they are so hard to get into, especially High Fantasy. I am trying to read Seeker by Arwen Elys Dayton right now, and although it is good, I just find it really hard to get into the book.

5. A Popular or Beloved Character You Did Not Like

Going back to The Infernal Devices, I did not like Jem. I liked him as a background character, but not as a character character. You know? I feel so bad saying that I did not like him because Jordan loves Jem (imagine her eyes turning to hearts when she thinks about him), but he was just never a character I particularly connected with, despite for the fact that I loved Will and he and Jem are parabati.

7. A Popular Book Trope You Are Tired of Seeing

In all honesty I am pretty tolerant with stuff like that. If I don’t want to read it, or I don’t like it, I just won’t pay attention to it. But, I guess I would say that I am sick of Boy Bands. And any books that centre around Boy Bands. I don’t even know if there are any, but if there are I may go out and buy all the books just to burn them. Someone has to watch out for those easily coerced into liking horrid things right?

8. A Popular Series You Have No Interest in Reading

I am going to be bluntly honest right now. I had absolutely no intention of reading the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series. I did not want anything to do with them, and I was not going to even look at the books. Then Jordan shoved the books down my throat, and I liked them.

9. The Saying Goes “The Book is Always Better Than The Movie,” But What Movie or T.V. Show Adaptation Do You Prefer More Than The Book?

When I think about it, I really did not like The Fault in Our Stars book, but I did like the movie. Many people disagree with me, but I agree with myself. And I stand by my decision in saying that the movie is better than the book. I loved Looking for Alaska though, and if they make a movie out of that book and butcher it I will be furious.

Anyway, I hoped you liked reading about my opinions on these types of things! Leave your opinions in the comments!

Series Review: Percy Jackson and the Olympians

We are gonna shake it up a bit here and give you all more than what you usually bargain for on Wednesday’s! Instead of a review of one book, you guys are getting a review of an entire series! How exciting! I am going to be reviewing the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series today, it is going to be a very ‘surface’ review, so if any of you want a more in depth review of one of the books in this amazing series, just let me know!

First of all I want to mention just how amazingly well the mythology in these books works. I can imagine a lot of other authors attempting at taking multitudes of Greek myths and trying to make a book out of it, much less a series or two, and it not going over well. But Rick perfectly balances the mythology with his own creation of a world. He never went so in depth with the mythology that the reader seems utterly lost, but you are immersed in a classical civilizations polytheistic religion just enough to draw you, inescapably, into the story. I will say that The Last Olympian and The Lightening Thief are my two favourite books of this series. The Titan’s Curse was my least favourite, but none of these ever went below a 3.5 star rating! This series drags you right into Percy’s world from the first page. And Rick’s writing is so full of satire that you can’t help but chuckling awkwardly to yourself when you realize that you are reading in public and people can hear you laugh!

The characters, lets get started on the characters. I found that none of the characters fell flat for me, which is a feat in itself in a series. But all of the characters in these books are multidimensional and give the story that much more of a reason to encapsulate and enslave your brain to the tale. And Percy! How I love Percy! He might just be making the list of some of my all time favourite characters! That boy is witty beyond belief and I love reading from his perspective and just about him in general. He reminds me a lot of Harry from the Harry Potter series, and I love Harry too, so it makes sense! Also, Grover is awesome in the first book, I did not like him as much in the rest of them, but the point is still valid nonetheless. I also find that Annabeth and Percy just feed really well off of each other through this whole series, and they always seem to balance each other out.

The inclusion of the Gods and Goddesses also makes for a lot awesome literary opportunities! Apollo kills me every time he was in a section of the book, and just how human he portrayed some of the Gods was a really interesting way to view them. Although some, like Zeus, Aphrodite and Athena retain their ethereal and eternal standpoint it is interesting to see them depicted in ways that differ from the giants sitting in the clouds. This series is just an overall good read and I recommend all those who are interested in reading it to just give it a shot. I think I finished this whole series in just over a week, and I truly enjoyed it.

Yet again, if you want a more in-depth review of any of these books just let me know!

Fandom News: Mockingjay Part 2 Trailer

The first Mockingjay Part 2 trailer dropped yesterday and people were very excited! I haven’t watched it yet but I have seen many gifs and although it doesn’t look like they show a lot it does build some nice excitement. It just seems like the movie is so far away.

Anyways, here’s the trailer!

Hopefully this movie is better than the last one, cause I felt the last one mostly pointless filler.

Quote of the Week

Follow your heart but take your brain with you.

I really like this quote because you can easily interpret it in many different ways. The main one obviously about relationships which is a major part in everyones lives whether it be romantic or friendly. However the other way I see it is making big decisions. The first thing that comes to mind for me is pick what kind of career pathway I want to go into. I have been all over the place and I personally find it stupid that we have to start having an idea of what we want to go into by the time we are 16/17.

So hopefully when September comes around and I have to start looking into different schools and programs I will follow my heart and pick what I know I will enjoy but also sit back and try to think about what will be the most logical and hopefully I can meet somewhere in the middle where I can be happy but also feel like my choice was the right one in both my heart and my brain.

Hope you guys have a good week,
