Quotes are interesting, and they often make me think! And I really love scrolling through my tumblr twice a month in search of what to write about next while I blast The Paper Kites through my laptop speakers! And this weeks quote is one that inspired me to think and to delve deep into a soul filled with murky waters.
There is nothing noble in being superior to your fellow men; true nobility is being superior to your former self.
– Ernest Hemingway
This quote really made me think because I truly wanted to understand it before I began writing. To write candidly about a topic that you know little is one thing, but to understand something and expand on it in an educated way is another. Sorry for getting all school-like on you guys there, must be all those papers I have had due lately!
Anyway, I really like this quote (especially as a teenager) because it shows me that I have to understand the faults of the older versions of myself to become a better person. In other words you have to know what is wrong with your iPhone 3G before you can build the iPhone 6. And when you are a teenager everything in your brain moves around, and the way you process thoughts allow for larger, more advanced thoughts than when you were a child. It shows that you should be harsh on your former self and work on yourself rather than stalking Instagram and judging someone’s latest duck-faced, Nicki Minaj quoting selfie. Which I am guilty of doing, I must admit. Anyway, I should probably let you all go read as well, let me know what you think of this quote and what your interpretation of it is!
Keep on designing your own catastrophe…
